Celebrated across the country in March, Women’s History Month is the time when women’s contributions to history, art, society are recognized. Did you know Women’s History Month started as Women’s History Week? After a group of women lobbied for national recognition, President Jimmy Carter issued the first Presidential Proclamation in February 1980 designating March 2-8, 1980 as National Women’s History Week:
“From the first settlers who came to our shores, from the first American Indian families who befriended them, men and women have worked together to build this nation. Too often the women were unsung and sometimes their contributions went unnoticed. But the achievements, leadership, courage, strength and love of the women who built America was as vital as that of the men whose names we know so well.”https://lwv-va.org/2018/02/23/president-jimmy-carters-message-to-the-nation-designating-march-2-8-1980-as-national-womens-history-week/
For over 24 years, presidents have issued a yearly proclamation designating March as Women’s History month. And, in the final installment of our series, (even though they’re not national rock stars, they’re Stage rock stars), we give the spotlight to our remaining 3 associates who embody poise, grace, STYLE and dedication to the jobs they do every day here at Stage. We went Behind the Scenes and took a moment to find out who and what inspires them daily, their personal look and why looking good every day is important to them. Let’s dive in!
She keeps the Creative Department hopping as she leads the charge as our Senior Creative Director, Concept & Design. Innovative, smart and ALWAYS full of impromptu, on-your-toes ideas, Kim’s personal style is just as fast-paced as she is. She was pleasantly surprised to be asked to describe her fabulous style. “What a surprise to be included in this stylish group of women! I’ve worked for Stage for 24 years and my personal style has developed over the years. In my opinion, the key to looking good at any age, any weight, any stage of one’s life is to know what flatters your body type and your coloring.”
Here’s a list of a few of Kim’s personal tips & guides for style:
- Pair a piece with more volume with a sleeker piece so you don’t end up looking like the Michelin Man. 🙂 Like a good kimono or dolman-sleeve top with a skinny jean.
- Always try to find fabulous shoes! Everyone loves a high heel but always test them for comfort and walkability. Believe it – the block heel can be a girl’s best friend.
- For jewelry, big earrings with short hair is such fun! But leave the neck & arms bare or wear something very simple. It’s ok to splurge on in-the-now jewelry pieces to keep up with the trends.
- Shop online! You can find so many things in your size, but nothing beats seeing and feeling and trying things on when you have more time to browse in store. Don’t forget about off-price stores & boutiques for those EXTRAs!
“I choose a few trends that work for my body and my age but keep myKim
basics classic. When it comes to shoes & fashion jewelry, the trendier, more fun the better! I can be any age from the neck up and the ankles down!”
As an Omni-Commerce Content Specialist, she’s THE GURU for Beauty & Fragrance – fact checking, helping write online descriptions & researching the must-have, wear-now trends for her area. Her work sets the tone online by further encouraging purchases. Not only does this make her a Beauty Expert, but we learned she’s also a fashion expert by her own right.
We wondered why fashion was so important to her & Brittney said, “Fashion is important to me, because it’s art; and art is a form of self-expression. Fashion allows people to express and identify themselves, without the task of explaining themselves. From detail and structure to colors and prints, garments, shoes, and accessories are tangible products of the designer’s imagination. The way that someone uses pieces, to style an outfit, is their interpretation of art known as ‘fashion’. The intersectionality of fashion and style is both interesting and inspiring.”
June Ambrose, Gabi Fresh, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Rihanna. Over the years, these women’s personal styles have both influenced and empowered women, around the world. I love the attention to detail that goes into their looks and their bold, non-traditional approaches to fashion.
“My personal style is very versatile; it really depends on how I feel, when I wake up that day; it ranges from fun and sporty to elevated and chic… I’m pretty laid back; I love fashion, but I also enjoy being comfortable. No matter the occasion, my outfit is a combination of fashion and function.”
Brittney advises to be open in where you shop. She says, “Shopping can be overwhelming, so it’s easy to stick to stores that are familiar; but by doing so, you’re missing out on so much. Open up your options to increase your opportunity of finding a good deal.”
Consummate Buyer of Women’s Tops, her office is responsible season to season, trend-to-trend to keep the tops merchandise fresh & available to suit our guests needs. Victoria also excels in putting together classically feminine looks every day for her own personal style. After living in NYC for 4 years, she’s a pro at effortlessly combining fashion with function. She says, “I’m the girl who loves mixing high-end styles with everyday affordable pieces. I love recreating Celeb-inspired Get the Looks – or any look for less.“
