It’s almost time for the principal shopping event of the year – Black Friday. Shoppers wait year-round for the blow-out sales on TVs, electronics, clothes and more.
But though great bargains are available, you need to be prepared to have the most success at Black Friday. You snooze, you lose (seriously!). Here are our 6 tips on how to Black Friday shop successfully.
1. do your homework
Black Friday used to mean a quick scan of the local ads in the paper before heading out to the shops. Alas, this is no longer the case. Start researching prices for your most coveted items now – in print and online – before Thanksgiving weekend.
2. have an in-store game plan
Once you have your shopping list, you need to be prepared for the in-store mania that ensues on Black Friday. Know the store hours – if there’s a major discount running until only 7am, hit that store up first. If you’re in a group, split up to cover more ground. Big ticket items like this smart TV will go fast!
3. have an online game plan
Not feeling up to the crowds? Shopping online on Black Friday and Cyber Monday is a good alternative. But you’ll still need a plan, as heavily discounted items can sell out in mere seconds online. Create accounts on your favorite stores’ websites in advance, and put items in your shopping cart ahead of the sale period. That way, items will be in your cart before Black Friday even starts!
4. be prepared for long lines
Unfortunately, with huge discounts comes huge lines. Bring things to do so you’re not bored while waiting – download the latest episode of your podcast or create an upbeat playlist to keep your energy up.
5. don’t forget gift receipts
Getting your Christmas shopping out of the way? Even if you think you know what your loved ones want, it’s best to be on the safe side and get a gift receipt. Need some gift inspiration? This Estee Lauder set would make a great Christmas gift for your daughter or niece:
6. bring snacks
You’re going to be getting up early, so chances are, you’ll get hungry while you’re out shopping. Bring packable snacks like granola bars, string cheese and nuts to make sure you stay strong throughout the morning.
