April is notorious for cloudy, rain-filled days. With that being said, selecting a fashionable ensemble to wear out in the elements is often an afterthought. For example, I tend to skip out on my ideal spring choices and opt for dull shades, finding it more fitting – based on the ambiance outside my window. But, in reality, creating chic choices for rainy days can be quite easy! Not only that, but having a wet weather arsenal lifts your spirits, so those dark days won’t seem quite so dreary.
what you will need
Of course, when the forecast calls for clouds, our main goal is to stay dry. The best way to do so is with these layering accessories:
These three pieces can be worn individually or together to protect you, based on the severity of the weather. I personally love a great pair of rain boots and an umbrella. Boots are easy to slip over jeans or leggings, and even pair well with dresses. In addition, rain boots keep your feet and ankles dry while adding a bit of style. We offer a wide variety of rain boots in different heights and prints, so you are sure to find the perfect pair!
Umbrellas easily spruce up your rainy day wardrobe. Having a brightly printed umbrella can completely change your perception of the day ahead, while protecting you from the ongoing precipitation. My favorite right now is the bubble style. You can keep your shoulders and head dry, and with the clear, waterproof material, you’ll also keep your visibility high!
As for clothing items, I tend to stick to denim and dresses on rainy days. Denim is durable and thick, so you’ll stay warm in anticipation of the cold fronts that often accompany rain. If rain boots aren’t your style, it’s a snap to roll your cuffs and slip into closed toe ankle booties. This way, your feet stay dry, but you still have a wearable ensemble, both indoors and out.
Layering pieces make the weather more bearable, as they are easy to add on when the temperatures drop. Likewise, they can be removed when the sun comes out. Lightweight cardigans and printed knit shrugs are excellent examples of layering pieces for rainy days.
Just think of rainy day fashion as an extension of your seasonal style! It goes to show that, rain or shine, looking chic is always in the forecast.
