Nothing feels better than doing something good together. While your friends and family are gathered, take some time to do something for others in the spirit of the season.
Make care packages for soldiers overseas, create Christmas cards for kids in the hospital or deliver goodies (handmade or store-bought) to your local fire or police station.

Put on a Christmas play. If you’ll have a lot of kids at your Christmas Eve gathering, give them something fun to do! For an hour or so, take the kids aside and give them props and clothing items to use as Christmas costumes.
Then, ask them to act out a classic Christmas story that they’re familiar with, such as the nativity scene, A Christmas Story or A Charlie Brown Christmas. Or they can create their own play! The older kids will love “directing” the production.
Host a cookie decorating party for all of the adults and kids attending! Before your guests arrive, bake a batch of gingerbread or sugar cookies. Set up a cookie decorating station with sprinkles, icing and other decorations. Invite everyone to participate in cookie decorating whenever they please during the evenings. Then, send guests home with their own tin of Christmas cookies (if they haven’t all been eaten!).
Gather around the fire! If you have a fireplace or outside fire pit, Christmas Eve is the perfect time to warm up around the fire, share Christmas stories, sing Christmas carols and toast marshmallows. There’s just something magical about memories made around the fire.
