We’re excited to celebrate real women who do it all, who put everyone else before themselves and give back even more than they receive. They balance work, family, friends, hobbies and interests. And they do it with style and grace while looking fabulous. Meet Candice a true Real Life, Real Style inspiration.
Candice wears a lot of hats in her life, but the mom hat always comes first. She starts her day when her toddler daughter Zoe calls her through the baby monitor. After having coffee with her husband and grandmother, she makes sure to spend at least 30 minutes with Zoe—no phones, no computer, no distractions. If it’s a workday, Candice dons another hat: college instructor. She teaches at Rowan College at Gloucester College and is an adjunct professor at Salem Community College, where she met Osiris, the Peebles employee who nominated her.
When she’s not working or caring for her family, Candice donates her precious time to charitable events and organizations. She is the President of the Alumni Association for the community college, which recognizes former students and helps current students offset the expense of books. She has also recently started working with a new non-profit that is raising funds to establish a home for women who are victims of human trafficking. Candice is involved in building awareness and fundraising. In the future, the organization plans to also provide training and employment opportunities so the women can re-establish themselves independently.
“I like the fundraising aspect of working with non-profits,” she explains, “mostly because there’s a lot of money out there that people are willing to give away, and there are so many groups that really need it.”
One of Candice’s past charitable activities was creating and hosting Style by Invitation fashion shows at Peebles.
“The Peebles fashion shows were the coolest thing,” she says. “Peebles wanted to do these fashion shows as a way to bring the store closer to the community at large, and they wanted to give a donation back to a non-profit. So it was exciting and definitely motivating because I got to be a part of something really fun and at the same time raise money for something that I care about.”
Candice marketed and promoted the events, found models for the shows and styled the outfits. Each event has raised upwards of $3,000 for non-profit organizations.
In her nomination, Osiris said Candice loves our stores and refers every one of her friends and family to shop with us.
“I think what I like most about shopping at Peebles,” says Candice, “is that the people know me there. They’re excited to see me.”
Candice describes her style as comfortable, yet powerful. Most days are filled with the demands of being a working mother, wife, and philanthropist, so comfort and versatility are a must. “I need to wear things that can coexist in different environments,” she says. “And of course when you have a child, you’re almost always on the go.”
She says her color palate has recently evolved from mostly gray and red to bolder colors like bright yellow, deep hues of ocean blue and light greens. “When people observe others in those colors, I think it lightens their mood and makes it easier to smile,” she explains. “It’s uplifting.”
She loves to wear an A-line dress with kitten heels or jeans with a vest, patterned shirt and tall boots. Her go-to piece is an infinity scarf. “They add color and work in three seasons!”
Candice believes that art is everywhere, including fashion. So she looks to nature and other people for style inspiration. “I’m inspired by something pretty someone else is wearing,” she says. “I love that women find things that can make a statement about who they are, how they are feeling about life and how they’re living it.”
