We’re excited to celebrate real women who do it all, who put everyone else before themselves and give back even more than they receive. They balance work, family, friends, hobbies and interests. And they do it with style and grace while looking fabulous. Meet Heather, a true Real Life, Real Style inspiration.
A dedicated career woman and single mother of two boys, Heather meets every day head-on and with a smile on her face, no matter what life hands her. As Director of Customer Service for Stage Stores, she successfully manages two departments simultaneously, in addition to helping her two sons, Logan (21) and Chase (18), prepare for life after college.
“She’s a perfect example of juggling the responsibilities of her family and career at the same time,” says Heather’s friend and co-worker Susana, who nominated her.
Heather starts each day by clearing her head during her hour-long commute to work. “When I arrive at work, I always have a smile on my face when I walk through the door no matter what type of night or morning I may have had,” she says.
She has always had this positive outlook, but Heather says a recent experience has helped her find even more perspective. In September 2015, her ex-husband and father of her two boys was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer. He called on Heather to care for him during his last months. Although they had been divorced for 16 years, she didn’t hesitate to go to his side. Heather says that helping him through his illness also helped her.
“This experience has changed me…changed my whole life,” she says. “I am greatly more aware of what truly is important. While this tragic whirlwind of a life was happening to him, I believe it was somehow meant for me, too, to be in this journey with him.”
Heather describes her style as a mix of contemporary and classic. At work, you’re most likely to see her in a figure flattering dress or tailored suit paired with cute heels. “Always heels,” she says. “I’m short so I have to get height any way I can.” Her favorite outfit for the office is a Ralph Lauren dress with Jessica Simpson neutral sling-back shoes.
When she’s home, she trades in her heels for Converse Chuck Taylors and goes for casual and comfy in a t-shirt and jeans or shorts.
Heather’s go-to piece is black blouse with a drape neck. “It can be dressed up by pairing with a blazer and slacks or dressed down by pairing with a cute pair of jeans and my cowboy boots.”
Heather gets her style inspiration mainly from magazines and her favorite websites.
